$100 quad bike training

17 Jan 2017

NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Tocal College, in partnership with SafeWork NSW, has offered subsidised quad bike training to eligible farmers and farm workers in the Riverina this February.

To be held in Albury, Wagga Wagga and the Jerilderie/Deniliquin area, the one-day practical course is designed to give farmers skills to safely and effectively operate four wheeled motor bikes and carry out routine checks and maintenance.

NSW DPI education officer, Sally Friis, said the course will cost $100 for eligible participants who work for, or operate an agricultural business registered in NSW.
“We encourage farmers and farm workers to check out the eligibility requirements and register for a course,” Ms Friis said.

“Employers are demonstrating their duty of care in workplace safety by ensuring staff attend quad bike training.

“Positive feedback from employers and employees who have attended the course confirms the need for rural workers to update quad bike skills.

“Their overall response has given a thumbs up to the practical content and enjoyment factor of riding and working on four-wheeled bikes.”

Participants will be awarded a certificate of attainment following successful completion of NSW DPI’s accredited training course, with subsidised training planned across NSW until June 2017.

Up to $500 worth of rebates towards the purchase of compliant helmets, operator protective devices, safer vehicles and undertaking the DPI training course are available as part of the Safework NSW Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program.

Registration, rebates and eligibility details are available online, or by contacting Tocal College (02) 4939 8881 and kim.griffiths@dpi.nsw.gov.au.
