Free workshops to help young farmers get bank ready

18 Jan 2017

Young farmers and those aspiring to get into the business of agriculture are encouraged to register for the ‘Getting Started – Bank Ready’ workshops to be held in February at Gunnedah, Quirindi, Tamworth, and Barraba, hosted by the Young Farmer Business Project, a joint initiative between NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and NSW Farmers.

NSW DPI Manager Business Resilience Program, Sonia Muir said the free workshops are designed to inform young farmers how to be prepared when accessing finance to enter or expand an agricultural business.

“It can be difficult for young people to navigate the many business barriers, so young farmers are encouraged to attend the workshops to gain valuable insights to better understand banks and what they require,” Ms Muir said.

“These skills will help them to be better prepared when they approach a bank seeking finance to commence or expand an agricultural business.”

Guest speaker will be Jess Newton, Agribusiness Executive with the Commonwealth Bank, who will discuss banking lingo, how to make better financial decisions and how to develop an excellent relationship with the bank.

Participants will need to bring a laptop to the workshop as there will be hands-on examples to work on during the workshop.

Workshops will be held from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm (finger food provided) at:

  • Gunnedah Bowling and Services Club, 313 Conadilly St, Wednesday 8 February
  • Quirinidi RSL Club, 86-88 Station St, Thursday 9 February
  • Tamworth Golf Club, Mahony Ave, Wednesday 15 February
  • Barraba - The Playhouse Hotel, 123 Queen St, Thursday 16 February

The workshops are free, but places are limited so participants must register before the event by:
