The Institute covers an area of about 13 ha and includes a wide range of buildings to meet the needs of all activities on the site.  The Port Stephens Fisheries Institute has extensive facilities for aquatic research and accommodates administration/management and compliance staff.

  • Don Francois Building – Fisheries administration, management and research offices
  • Don Francois Conference and/or meeting rooms
  • Mollusc Hatchery – aquaculture research and laboratory
  • Quarantine Mollusc Hatchery – aquaculture research and laboratory
  • Marine Fish Hatchery – aquaculture research and laboratory
  • Broodstock Hatchery – aquaculture and other aquatic research
  • Aquatic Research Aquarium - freshwater and marine research
  • Marine fish nursery facilities and grow-out tanks – aquaculture research and restocking programs
  • Bass Hatchery – aquaculture research and restocking programs
  • Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems Building – accommodates marine and freshwater research staff
  • Aquatic Ecosystem Laboratory – specialised laboratory for aquatic research
