MACCALLUM, Richard

Research Agronomist

Research interests

  • Perennial plants in farming systems
  • Crop and water balance modelling

Background

Richard has over 10 years experience in applied agronomic research. He joined NSW Agriculture* in 1995 and provided technical support for a range of winter crop agronomy and breeding trials.

Following this, Richard utilised crop modelling to investigate fallowing and water use of wheat in central western NSW. More recently he has been investigating the benefits and limitations of introducing Old Man Saltbush into mixed farms in the NSW wheat belt.

*NSW Department of Primary Industries was formed on July 1, 2004 through an amalgamation of NSW Agriculture, NSW Fisheries, State Forests of NSW and the NSW Department of Mineral Resources.
