BOSCHMA, Suzanne

Research Agronomist

Research interests

  • Agronomy of tropical grasses
  • Pasture mixtures incorporating lucerne
  • Pasture species evaluation
  • Grazing management systems

Background

Suzanne Boschma has 15 years experience in pasture grass and legume field-based research, including persistence under grazing and drought, carbohydrate reserves, phalaris-legume mixtures, species evaluation and development of phalaris cultivars for the North-West Slopes of NSW.

She joined the department in 1991 for 3 years as a Technical Officer in the lucerne breeding program. In 1997, after completing PhD, Suzanne re-joined NSW Agriculture* as a research agronomist and has undertaken research projects in phalaris cultivar evaluation and development, pasture species evaluation for recharge and saline discharge environments and more recently the agronomy of tropical grasses in improve their adoption in farming systems in northern NSW. She is currently located at Tamworth Agricultural Institute.

*NSW Department of Primary Industries was formed on July 1, 2004 through an amalgamation of NSW Agriculture, NSW Fisheries, State Forests of NSW and the NSW Department of Mineral Resources.
