The NSW Apiaries Act 1985 was established to:

  • regulate the keeping of bees in NSW
  • require and provide for the registration of beekeepers
  • control, eradicate and prevent the introduction of certain diseases and pests which afflict bees and apiaries in NSW
  • provide for the payment of compensation to registered beekeepers in certain cases.

This Primefact includes information on the requirements of the Apiaries Act with regard to beekeeper registration, identification of brood boxes, hive movements, hive access, hive disposal, abandoned or neglected hives, nuisance bees, exposed honey, disease control, health certificates, compensation for infected material, queen candy, and notifiable diseases and pests.
