Stock (Chemical Residues) Regulation 2010

The Stock (Chemical Residues) Regulation 2005 was subject to staged repeal under the requirements of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1989. Under this Act, most regulations are subject to automatic repeal every five years. Regulations are generally reviewed, and allowed to lapse, or are remade with or without amendment.

The Stock (Chemical Residues) Regulation 2010 commenced on 1 September 2010 after online notification on the NSW Legislation website on 6 August 2010. The Regulation is made under the Stock (Chemical Residues) Act 1975. The objective of this Act is to protect human health by preventing the slaughter of stock for human consumption which contains unacceptable levels of chemical residues, or which are chemically affected in other ways, as well as preventing stock from becoming chemically affected. The Regulation helps achieve the objects of the Act by prescribing: the means of disposal of affected stock; the reporting of chemical residue test results; and stock identification requirements, among other things.

The draft Regulation and Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) (116kb PDF) were publicly exhibited between 10 May and 11 June 2010. One submission was received which supported the draft Regulation. The Regulatory Impact Statement has been updated (116kb PDF) to reflect the outcome of public consultation, and the Regulation was made as drafted.

The final Regulation can be viewed on the NSW Legislation website of the NSW Parliamentary Counsel at www.legislation.nsw.gov.au.
