Primary Industries in the North Coast Region of NSW - Strategic Review
Approximately 1 in 8 working people on the North Coast are employed in primary production. The farm gate value of primary production on the North Coast is in excess of $1 billion per annum. When processing is included, this value rises to about $2 billion per annum, particularly in the agriculture and forest industries. The current recorded value of mineral production from the North Coast is nearly $30 million per annum, comprising predominantly construction materials.
The key issues for NSW Department of Primary Industries in the North Coast Region are:
- developing sustainable and profitable primary industries to support regional communities;
- developing sustainable production systems and reduce the impacts of primary production on the environment;
- maintaining access to rural land resources for primary production purposes.
This publication is an overview of the agricultural, fisheries, forests, and mineral resources industries on the North Coast, and the challenges and opportunities important to this region. It is one of a series of publications on the regions of NSW.
