A free, fun-packed day for the family is on offer at Cumberland State Forest, Sydney, on 12 October.

Australia’s only metropolitan State forest will play host to  the Cumberland Forest Fair on Sunday 12 October 2008 from 10am-3.30pm.

The free event will set the forest  bustling with loads of fun activities celebrating forestry in NSW.

Featuring performances by the  popular bush band ‘Simply Bushed’, rides, kids’ craft activities, facepainting,  pony rides, woodworking demonstrations, fire tankers, scrumptious food and  displays from a wide-range of forest products and users.

Hands-on activities like bird  watching and orienteering are also sure to impress.

The popular photography competition  will be held again for the third time. With the theme ‘Spring into Forests’,  the competition is a great excuse to get out into the forest and take some  great shots. There are fantastic prizes up for grabs so check out the website  for information and an entry form.

Entry to the fair is free and  parking is available on-site.

Cumberland  State Forest is located at 95 Castle Hill Rd, West Pennant Hills (in Sydney’s  north western suburbs). For information phone 1300 655 687 or visit www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/forests.
