Do you have archives of a range of paper types like newspapers, telephone books and magazines? Do you know someone else who does?
Then your help is needed.
Samples like these are required for a project being staged by researchers from NSW Department of Industry and Investment.
The project is researching the decay of a range of paper products in Australian landfills. The aim is to determine the extent of carbon loss and storage from a range of wood and paper types deposited in landfills.
The researchers are interested in any samples that are five-years old or older to build up a database of control samples for chemical and physical testing.
The latest excavation took place in early 2009, with significant volumes of paper buried in the early 1990s recovered.
If you know of historical samples of newspapers, telephone books and magazines, contact Fabiano Ximenes at E: fabianox@sf.nsw.gov.au or T: 02 9872 0143.
Who knows, your old newspaper could help in climate change research!
