From the chief executive

From the Spring/Summer 2009 edition of Bush Telegraph Magazine.

Nick Roberts

Ensuring people and communities have access to  information about our states forest resources and Forests NSW management  practices is vital to the future success of our business.

Forests NSW provide such information to the community in a variety of  ways, with Bush Telegraph being one method, along with hosted forest tours,  school education programs, sustainability reporting, our website and more.

Often, local media reports are the first people hear of issues surrounding  forestry. With only a limited amount of time or space, it is difficult to  present the rigour of the science, the complexity of the task and the thorough  regulation of harvesting operations.

This issue of our magazine highlights the  challenges of providing information on a complex issue in a simple way. On page  22, you can gain insight into sawlog and woodchip production on the far south  coast, with management designed to improve productivity of State forests near  Eden forests so damaged by past wildfires.

Other issues covered in this edition include superb parrots (page 9),  purchasing timber (page 20) and visiting the pine forests of the southern  highlands.

Wed love to hear from you on  issues you would like to see covered in Bush Telegraph. Contact the editor at  bushtele@sf.nsw.gov.au with your suggestions for a  story for the autumn/winter 2010 edition.
