Industrial technology resources released for high schools
From the Spring/Summer 2009 edition of Bush Telegraph Magazine.
Understanding where timber comes from is an important part of NSW high school industrial technology subjects.
To help students gain this knowledge, Forests NSW has produced two new resources for high school students and teachers.
A new wood poster highlights different timber species grown in NSW. Featuring close up photos of the timber grain and information about the trees, timber properties and potential uses, this poster is a great resource for classrooms.
All About Wood is a booklet looking at timber, where it comes from and what its used for. It includes a map showing the areas of forest in NSW; a timeline showing the evolution of forestry in NSW; and diagrams explaining the difference between hardwood and softwood. This resource also looks at the uses of timber around the home and how much timber it takes to make a raft of household forest products. Looking at the future of forestry, it features a diagram depicting the carbon cycle in forests.
