Celebrating sustainability through Forests NSW education events
From the Summer 2006 edition of Bush Telegraph Magazine.
Through our varied education events program, Forests NSW provides opportunities to motivate, equip and involve school communities in learning about sustainable forest management.
Our program is designed to assist students and teachers to understand the complex issues of forest management and foster awareness and knowledge of sustainability in the context of NSW State forests.
One of Forests NSW major education events is the Strickland Forest Expo held each September, which highlights the significant role of planning in sustainable forest management.
The expo involves schools from the Central Coast participating in a range of activities in their local State forest. The hands-on activities are conducted by staff from Forests NSW and other organisations such as Taronga Zoo and the Environmental Education Centre at Gosford.
Other recent well received additions to the events program included an arbor event with the Botanic Gardens and a biodiversity event with Featherdale Wildlife Park.
These events complement the regular guided and self-guided programs run for schools at Cumberland State Forest in Sydney.
