Gorgeous shots win competition
From the Summer 2006 edition of Bush Telegraph Magazine.
It required some tough decisions by the judges, but the winners of the second Cumberland State Forest photographic competition were announced in mid October.
Forests NSW manager community programs, Sally Arundell, said that more than 30 photos had been entered in the competition staged as part of Cumberland’s Forest Fair celebrations.
“The judging panel, including a professional photographer and designer, was extremely impressed with the quality of the images, which had to have been taken in Cumberland over a seven week period,” Sally said.
“With the theme ‘what is a forest to you’, entrants captured the essence of Cumberland with shots of trees, plants, birds, potting up plants and children playing.”
Competition results:
- Under 15 years of age: 1st Lauren Hearne, 2nd Ebony Dark, 3rd Matthew Ambler
- Over 15 years of age: 1st Ernest Rust, 2nd Gary Lim, 3rd Beng Kay Tan
- Open – photo art: 1st David MacCullagh, 2nd Joshua Stanley, 3rd Beng Kay Tan
In each category, prizes of $200 for first prize, $100 for second and $50 for third were awarded. Certificates of commendation were also awarded to a number of entrants due to the high quality of entries.
“The winning entries will be made into postcards which will be distributed free to the public,” Sally said.
“We will also look at using these images in promotions of Cumberland over the next twelve months.”
