Wood in Australia republished
From the Summer 2006 edition of Bush Telegraph Magazine.
After 22 years in circulation, the definitive reference book ‘Wood in Australia’ has been updated and republished.
The book by Keith R. Bootle provides a summary of the main aspects of Australian wood utilisation. Architects, engineers, builders and other users of timber products will find this an essential reference, containing contemporary information on density and strength of timber species and engineered wood products.
Keith Bootle’s working life was associated with the then Forestry Commission of NSW (now Forests NSW) in the area of wood utilisation, with invaluable help in the development of the first edition from colleagues and others working in wood science, both in Australia and overseas.
Since the book was first published in 1983, some significant changes have occurred in timber processing and utilisation. With progress in the timber and associated industries, many Australian Standards have been updated and the book brings all references to these up-to-date.
Experts from Forests NSW, Timber Development Association of NSW, Timber Queensland and others contributed to the second edition. New colour photographs are also included.
Copies of ‘Wood in Australia’, 2nd Edition, can be purchased from Forests NSW Information Centre on Ph: 1300 655 687 or (02) 9871 3377. RRP $89.95 plus $5.00 postage and handling.
