Further recognition of the work and dedication of Forests NSW staff involved in firefighting and recovery efforts in late 2006 came in October.
At a special function in Orange, NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Ian Macdonald, presented the Forests NSW firefighting and recovery team with a NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Staff Achievement Award.
The award was presented to a selection of staff representatives from the various areas of the organisation involved in the work.
Staff receiving the award were involved in fighting the fires in the pine plantation near Tumut and Bathurst and the cypress pine forests near Baradine.
Commercial services staff were awarded for their involvement in coordinating sales of 75 per cent of salvageable logs and liaising with industry to ensure minimal financial impact.
Nursery staff, who grew an impressive additional 1.2 million seedlings for the replanting effort, were recognised with the award too.
This great team effort has reduced the impact of the fires on both Forests NSW and the local communities that rely on the plantations. Recovery planting will see the plantations return to life in the future.
NSW DPI’s Staff Achievement Awards recognise and honour employees who have demonstrated excellence in customer service, innovation, project excellence, sustained performance and contribution to cross-divisional team work.
