Forests NSW has awarded two five-year contracts to Greenfreight and G and J Groves to harvest and haul pine in its Hume region around Tumut, Tumbarumba and Batlow.

The contracts, which may be extended to 10 years, are worth a total of $42 million and will provide a secure future for these two local businesses.

Greenfreight and G and J Groves are delivering timber to Hyne at Tumbarumba, Weyerhaeuser and Visy at Tumut, Ausply at Wagga Wagga and Carter Holt Harvey at Myrtleford.

Forests NSW timber merchandising manager, Damien O’Reilly, said under the new contracts, Greenfreight would load and haul 300 000 tonnes a year, providing work for an estimated 15 local employees.

“This is a vote of confidence in our employees whose professionalism and commitment to the job was vital in our retaining this contract,” Greenfreight’s Geoff Green said.

“It is very pleasing to be able to give them, and the local communities of Tumbarumba and Rosewood, the security that this long-term contract will provide.”

Damien said the G and J Groves contract involved the harvest and haulage of 140 000 tonnes, which would support an estimated ten jobs.

“In our fiftieth year, winning the contract reflected the considerable effort and expertise put in by all employees over the years,” G and J Groves commercial manager Michael Clancy said.

“G and J Groves looked forward to partnering with Forests NSW into the future.”
