Imagining a big success

‘More than you imagine’ was the theme of NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) stand at the 2007 Sydney Royal Easter Show in April.
NSW DPI events manager, Kylie Davies, said the display was developed to prompt people to think more deeply about the role primary industries play in everyday life.
“Whether you are in your kitchen, bathroom or lounge room, primary industries have played a part in what is there,” Kylie said.
“Of course we all know one of our most prominent natural resources, coal, gives us electricity. But minerals have a plethora of other uses including in ceramic fittings, paint and cosmetics.
“The timber we use to build our homes and infrastructure comes from State forests. And we wouldn’t have the healthy fruit, vegetables and meat we eat without our farmers, or tasty fish to go with it if not for our commercial fishers.”
Kylie said the display then led people to consider the role government departments play in supporting these industries.
“The work of NSW DPI in areas like mine safety, biosecurity, and research and development adds huge value to both the industries and the broader community,” Kylie said.
