Gorgeous entries capture spirit of spring

Gary Lim’s‘Lorikeet Couple’
‘Spring into Forests’ was the theme of a photography competition stagedby Forests NSW in late 2008.
The bi-annual competition was held to coincide with the CumberlandForest Fair.
Entrants were required to submit a photograph taken in any of the Sydneyrim State forests such as Cumberland itself and forests south of Sydney -Penrose, Belanglo and Wingello; north of Sydney, Strickland near Gosford; andwest of Sydney, Newnes near Lithgow.
The photograph had to be taken between late August and September toembrace the springtime theme.
Entries continue to be of a consistently high calibre, with the panel ofjudges deliberating for many hours.
The winners were:
- First Place - Gary Lim’s ‘Lorikeet Couple’
- Second Place - Deirdre Familton’s ‘The Ladybird’s Palace’
- Third Place - Lynette Wright’s ‘New fern frond unfurling to life’
These winning photos have been made into postcards.
Winner of the Photo Art category was Gary Lim for ‘Maiden Hair Fern’.
Gary Lim also won the Brian Etheridge Memorial Prize for ‘Best in Show’for ‘Lorikeet Couple’ (pictured) The Best in Show award was a framed photographtaken by Brian Etheridge.
The winner of the staff category was Soon Lee Lim for ‘Arrival ofPowerful Owl in Spring’.
