New video case studies for schools

A series of video case studies examining the latest in forest scienceand research has been published on the LandLearn NSW website.

  The first video showcases the work of Dr Russell Turner, a remotesensing specialist who is leading the way in the use of laser technology tocreate three-dimensional images of forests which are so detailed individualtrees can be assessed.

The technology is increasingly being used to map forests features,assess wildfire damage and forest health, estimate timber yield and calculatecarbon stored in forests.

Image library continues to grow

Over 200 primary industry related images are now available on Flickr forfree. The new image library for schools contains a wide range of images idealfor downloading and pasting into assignments and presentations. View thegallery of images at:

Careers information on-line

It takes a lot of people to grow, harvest, sustain and manage ournatural resources. In fact agriculture, mining, fishing and forestry industriesprovide approximately 30% to 40% of the employment in NSW areas and are keyfinancial drivers of regional economies, generating 40% to 50% of economicactivity in this state. What is LandLearn NSW?

LandLearn NSW is a schools education program coordinated by New SouthWales Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI). LandLearn NSW works inpartnership with organisations to encourage and support the incorporation ofstudies about sustainable primary production and natural resource managementinto K-12 classroom teaching. The LandLearn NSW website,www.landlearnnsw.org.au, links visitors with the latest resources, courses andexcursion programs offered by NSW DPI and partner organisations.
