Wine and olive growers to learn about getting the most out of their irrigation system
Wine and olive growers are invited to a workshop at Mudgee on getting the best out of their irrigation system.
"The winter period is a perfect time to do your pre season irrigation maintenance," said Tony Somers, district horticulturist with NSW Department of Primaries Industries (DPI).
"This workshop is focussing on pre-season maintenance, water efficiency, fertigation and automation, with working displays and practical demonstrations for Wine Grapes and Olive growers."
The workshop will be held at Quality Parklands Resort, Cassilis Road in Mudgee on Tuesday 4t August.
"It is being run by DPI, Netafim and Thinkwater Mudgee," Mr Somers said.
"Preventative Maintenance versus Corrective Maintenance will be covered, highlighting the benefit of anticipating the problem rather than trying to fix it after the damage has occurred.
"The trend today is toward automation of irrigation systems and introducing fertiliser through the irrigation water.
"Reliable and user friendly options for growers to optimise inputs and raise their productivity will be explained.
"Older irrigation systems are often inefficient, expensive to run and losing fruit potential.
"This practical workshop will help growers understand the fundamentals of drip irrigation to get the most out of their irrigation system.
"We are very fortunate to have experts in horticultural irrigation to present this workshop, including David Robson, Netafim Area Manager from Southern NSW, David Smith, Netafim Technical Services, Wane Ingram, Netafim NSW Sales Manager and Mike Robbins, Irrigation Officer NSW DPI.
"If you would like to get the most out of your irrigation system, please come along."
