Community fishing workshop at Woy Woy
Children will be hightailing their way to an Industry and Investment (I & I) NSW Fishing workshop, on the NSW Central Coast this Sunday, October 18.
I & I NSW Fisheries Education Officer, Jamie Burns, said the workshop is being run in conjunction with Central Coast Family Support - a local not for profit organisation that provides support for families with children aged up to 16 years, where issues within the family impact on childrens safety, wellbeing and development.
"Fishing workshops such as these are held around the State each year as part of the NSW Governments commitment to provide children with the opportunity to learn about sustainable recreational fishing and habitat conservation, Mr Burns said.
"Our fishing workshop on Sunday will focus on kids who are currently being raised by their grandparents.
"Its about giving them a fun day out and the opportunity to introduce them to fishing as a recreational activity in a sustainable and ethical way.
"This program is one of many initiatives funded by the NSW Governments Recreational Fishing Trusts to improve fishing across the state.
More than 50 children will attend the workshop along with their carers and siblings.
The local Lions Club along with members of the Central Coast Fishcare Volunteer group, local Fisheries Officers and staff from Central Coast Family Support will also be in attendance to ensure the day runs smoothly.
Each participant will take home a rod and reel as part of the free workshop.
The fishing workshop will kick off at 10am on Sunday, October 18 at the Lions Park, North Burge Road, Woy Woy.
