A $15,000 fish cleaning table will be built at Biriban Reserve Coal Point, after the Lake Macquarie Council successful applied for funding through the NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts.

The fish cleaning table would be a welcome addition to the reserve, which is a very heavy traffic area for anglers entering or exiting the lake.

Since the area was declared a Recreational Fishing Haven in 2002 catches have steadily increased. Both visiting and local anglers who use this area will no doubt welcome this purpose built fish cleaning facility.

The Coal Point Progress Association, Neighbourhood Watch and Landcare Committee wrote to the local Council requesting that it make a submission to secure funding for the project. The Recreational Fishing Trust agreed, approving a grant of $7500, Council will contribute matching funds.

This is another example of the Fishing Fee working hard for the NSW fishing community.

All money raised by the NSW Recreational Fishing Fee is placed into the Recreational Fishing Trusts and spent on improving recreational fishing in NSW.

The trusts are regulated by law and overseen by two committees made up of recreational fishers - one for saltwater and one for freshwater.

Anyone can apply to the Recreational Fishing Trusts for funding, including fishing clubs and organisations, councils, community groups and individuals.

If you want to apply for trust funds you can find out more through the website www.dpi.nsw.gov.au or if you wish to discuss a proposal or need assistance with an application, please contact the Recreational Fishing Trusts Executive Officer on(02) 9527 8411 or email recreational.fishingtrust@dpi.nsw.gov.au.
