Marine Discovery Series back for 2012
The Marine Discovery Series is kicking off 2012 with a presentation from marine enthusiast and avid photographer Mark Spencer on 19 January 2012 at the National Marine Science Centre, Charlesworth Bay, Coffs Harbour.
Solitary Islands Marine Park Community Education Officer, Ellie Marks, said Mark’s presentation is a must see for anyone interested in marine ecosystems, history and underwater photography.
“Mark is an intrepid traveller and renowned marine photographer and we are delighted he can launch our Marine Discovery Series for 2012,” Ms Marks said.
“Mark is an assignment photographer for Australian Geographic and has also had photos published with Geo, National Geographic and BBC Wildlife and Living Planet Magazines.
“Mark will share stories and photos of his recent visit to the recovered submarine, the HL Hunley, in Charleston, South Carolina, USA and also his involvement in a documentary on the HMAS Perth, which was sunk in WW2 off the Indonesian coast.
“In the second part of his presentation, Mark will share photos from his recent expedition to the waters off New Britain Island in Papua New Guinea.”
Ellie Marks said the Marine Discovery Series, now in its fifth year, is a joint initiative between the NSW Marine Parks Authority and Southern Cross University’s National Marine Science Centre.
“The free evenings feature an inspiring guest speaker every second month and showcase the beautiful Solitary Islands Marine Park and local and international marine research,” Ms Marks said.
“It’s a great opportunity for the community to come along and find out about NSW’s first marine park and the fascinating work being done in our local area.
“It’s also an opportunity to see some stunning photos and get some inspiration for your next dive.”
