The latest editions of NSW’s fishing guides - the Saltwater Fishing Guide and the Freshwater Fishing Guide for 2008 - have been released in time for the peak summer fishing season.
Anyone intending to fish over the coming months is encouraged to get themselves a free copy of the guides to familiarise themselves with existing and new fishing regulations.
Around 300 thousand guides will be distributed throughout NSW.
They are easy-to-understand publications that are a key part of DPIs commitment to anglers, to help them take care of the aquatic environment so that we can all continue to enjoy it into the future.
The guides are a great resource for families and holiday anglers because they outline existing and new fishing regulations and a range of other helpful fishing tips and facts.
They cover facts about how fish license fees are invested back into fishing by the Recreational Fishing Trusts of NSW into projects such as: providing fish cleaning tables at popular fishing locations, mooring fish aggregating devices offshore to create new fishing areas and stocking NSW’s waterways with fish.
They also contain good fishing tips about best fishing practices, fishing safety, popular knots and rigs, the location of recreational fishing havens and habitat protection as well as provide illustrations of the different fish species found in NSW so fishers can identify their catch.
This information is just what families and holiday anglers need to know to enjoy a great day’s fishing.
The guides can be obtained from Fisheries offices, fishing licence outlets or can be downloaded from the DPI website.
Further information about the guides and NSW fishing rules can be obtained from the Department of Primary Industries website, or by calling 1300 550 474.
