Just the spot for a bush picnic

15 Feb 2012

Sydney people don’t have far to go to enjoy a bush picnic. They just need to visit the only metropolitan State forest in Australia, Cumberland State Forest, at West Pennant Hills.

“Cumberland State Forest has more than 100,000 visitors a year,” said Forests NSW manager of public programs and community interaction Joanna Bodley.

“Now those visitors will be happier than ever at what they find as Forests NSW is about to rejuvenate another two picnic areas.

“Last year Swains and Calgaroo picnic areas were provided with new tables and chairs, extra barbecues and toilets and landscaping, making them prime places for weekend picnics.

“Over the next few months similar upgrades will take place for the other two picnic areas in the forest.

“These are right next to the sensory trail which has also been resurfaced and is sporting new interpretative signage.

“This trail is accessible and is popular with prams and strollers as well as those with mobility issues.

“To help the community gain access to this trail and the sensory experience it offers, the interpretive signage is available as an audio download on the website and Braille books can be supplied to groups on request.”
