Eighteen-year-old Jess Perkins, who is undertaking a traineeship with Forests NSW Bombala office, has won the Bombala High School’s Willmott Shield for ‘Excellence in Work Place Learning’.
The award was presented yesterday (19 December) at the Bombala High School Awards Day by Peter Herde from Willmott Forests and deputy principal Glen Warren.
The award recognises commitment to a traineeship. Ms Perkins has been working with Forests NSW for two years and will complete her traineeship at the end of this year.
She has secured a full-time job with Forests NSW next year as a business support officer for 12 months.
"It was very good to be recognised for my work and Bombala High School has been a great support throughout the traineeship," Ms Perkins said.
While undertaking the traineeship Ms Perkins also completed her HSC and passed with pleasing results.
During her traineeship, Ms Perkins worked one day a week and during school holidays with Forests NSW and she felt that study and the traineeship complemented each other.
"I’ve enjoyed working with Forests NSW staff who have been very helpful, and I’ve certainly learnt a lot during my traineeship," she said.
Forests NSW senior administration officer Danny Farrell congratulated Ms Perkins on her award and said she had been a valued, hard working member of staff involved in a wide range of clerical and administration work.
