This video demonstrates strategies that can be adapted to strike out the blowfly Green Lucy - the short name for the blowfly responsible for most of the flystrike in New South Wales.
The flystrike triggers include:
- urine or faeces stains;
- wool wet by rain;
- footrot;
- liquid food supplies;
- an animal's health;
- other contributing factors such as the temperature, and weather conditions.
Being aware of the life cycle of the blowfly is also helpful.
Also included in the video are some basics on how to prevent flystrike by better animal husbandry tactics:
- docking tails;
- worm control;
- drenching;
- animal selection techniques.
