In Australia, bruising is the single biggest cause of downgrading of apples at the grading belt, exceeding the losses due to all pests and diseases combined. Much of this bruising is preventable if pickers and bin handlers are adequately trained.
This video shows how to reduce bruising in apples during picking, bin handling and transporting to the packhouse, and demonstrates a simple method of assessing bruise damage.
The video was produced by NSW Agriculture (now NSW DPI), with financial support for production and distribution from the Australian Apple and Pear Growers Association.
Also available in DVD format.
