Illustration of Green vegetable bug

This is an illustration of Green vegetable bug Nezara viridula (Linnaeus) (Hemiptera:Pentatomidae)
Order reference: vegetable-bug
One of the stink bug group, the green vegetable bug is a common species in home gardens where it sucks sap from its host plants. The insect changes colour quite extensively as it goes through its younger stages and Zeck has illustrated a long series of nymphs showing this variation before reaching the adult insect which is green. Use of a tomato plant with ripe fruit as the background host gives the painting a bright focus around which the insect portraits are arranged.
