Our services

Banana Industry Committee

The Banana Industry Committee is established under the Banana Industry Act 1987, with the following functions:

  • provide facilities, material or advice relating to the marketing of bananas or banana products;
  • establish a system of quality control for bananas;
  • advertise and promote bananas and banana products;
  • control, or develop means for controlling, pests and diseases;
  • carry out research in relation to any matter of advantage to banana growers;
  • conduct educational programs relating to the production and marketing of bananas;
  • develop and expand markets for bananas in New South Wales and elsewhere;
  • establish a voluntary insurance scheme for banana growers;
  • undertake and provide banana market forecasting;
  • establish systems of quality control or pest and disease control including inspection of the ripening, weighing, grading, packaging and storage of bananas; and
  • support any activity assisting in the promotion or sale of bananas.
