Reviewing historical climate information

primefact cover
Primefact Number: 379    Edition: First edition    Released/reviewed: 01 Jan 2007

The frequency, duration and severity of droughts can be assessed by reviewing historical records, and this provides a guide to the potential of future or developing drought events. While this will not enable you to provide a forecast for the current year, there is much to be gained from such an exercise. This Primefact looks at:

  • RLPB historical drought declaration charts;
  • SOI correlations with past rainfall;
  • plotting historical rainfall.
