Determining the condition of cattle in drought
Primefact Number: 284 Edition: First edition Released/reviewed: 01 Nov 2006
The condition of cattle can be described as 'how fat they are' (the fat score). The easiest way to determine the condition of beef cattle initially is to examine some photographs showing beef cattle at different fat scores, and compare them with your cattle.
Pictures in this Primefact cover fat scores 1, 2 and 4.
For more information on assessing fat scores please see Primefact 282 Visual and manual assessment of fatness in cattle.
