How drought statuses are determined
The drought maps are prepared from information provided by the 14 Livestock Health and Pest Authorities (formerly provided by RLPBs) around the state, rainfall details from the Bureau of Meteorology and reports from Department of Primary Industries regional staff.
Drought classification of an area takes into account the following factors:
- a review of historic rainfall records for the area
- pasture availability
- climatic events such as frosts
- seasonal factors such as pasture growing seasons.
How often maps and eligibility statuses are updated
A new drought map is released each month and the drought assistance eligibility status of the Livestock Health and Pest Authority districts in NSW is also updated monthly.
