Biological farmers of Australia certification
Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA), Co-op Ltd, is Australia’s premier certifier and largest representative organisation for organic agriculture in Australasia and the South Pacific region. The BFA maintains this status by being the industry’s innovator and leader in organic regulation issues.
The aims of organic and biodynamic agriculture include the following:
- To satisfy the consumer demand for, confidence in, verified safe, clean food of high nutritional value.
- To sustain and increase the fertility and biological activity of the soil.
- To enhance energy and biological cycles in farming systems.
- To balance productive farming activities within ecological constraints, preventing or reducing on and off-farm pollution.
- To rely upon practices such as crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manures, cultivation, approved natural mineral fertilisers and biological agents as part of fertility and pest management programs.
