Blueberries are a native fruit of North and South America, Asia and Europe. They were first introduced into Australia in the early 1970s.
The cold climate Northern Highbush varieties are suited to Victoria, the southern highlands of New South Wales and Tasmania.
By 1978 it was recognised that the warmer climate Southern Highbush and Rabbiteye varieties from the southern states of America would grow on the NSW North Coast and produce high value, early season fruit.
This Primefact includes information on blueberry varieties, suitable climate for growing blueberries, site selection and preparation, planting, nutrition, mulching, pest and disease control, pruning, pollinating, harvesting and marketing.
