Flowers and ornamentals

Commercial cut flower production is a significant horticultural industry in NSW. Growers produce a wide range of flower and foliage crops for both the domestic and export markets.

Commercial flower growing is a labour intensive and technically challenging business.

Unlike most other horticultural crops, demand for fresh flowers is related to fashion trends and purchases are often related to our need to convey 'emotion' (sympathy, joy and celebration).

NSW DPI's role is to support cut flower industry development by providing advisory, diagnostic and regulatory services for growers, while our research scientists develop improved production systems.
