Irrigation best practices for vegetables in the Southern Murray Darling Basin, 1998-2002.

Description

Benchmarking irrigation practices in vegetable crops in southern NSW and northern Victoria. Testing and promoting best practice irrigation on-farm.

Study into the adoption of irrigation best practises in collaboration with the University of New England.

Activities & Outcomes

Testing water-efficient technology such as sub-surface drip irrigation. Demonstrating a range of soil moisture monitoring systems, and survey techniques using EM38 technology.

Conduct grower meetings, field days and workshops to encourage the adoption of best practice irrigation.

Manuals published for processing tomatoes, carrots/onions and melons published.

Increased use of soil moisture monitoring and drip irrigation under irrigation best practice principles across the Southern Murray Darling Basin.
