A guide to the exhibition of animals in NSW

Released/reviewed: 06 Oct 2010

In New South Wales the display of animals is regulated by the Exhibited Animals Protection Act (EAPA).The Act was passed in 1986 due to public outcry over the poor conditions being provided for animals exhibited in some circuses and fauna parks. Standards developed by staff of the Zoological Parks Board of New South Wales in consultation with industry provided the basis for the Regulations that were gazetted in 1989. Licensing commenced in July 1989. Since then the standards and Regulations have been amended and expanded on several occasions.

This document is intended for those wishing to exhibit animals and serves as a a guide to the various regulations relating to the exhibition of animals.
