When introducing cattle to a property, producers should have a planned biosecurity program which involves assessing and minimising the risk of introducing disease.

BJD is one of the most important diseases to exclude.

There are several options that give increased levels of assurance that BJD is not present in a particular herd.

These can be used voluntarily by producers in the Control or Residual Zones to protect their herds from BJD. For entry into the BJD Protected Zone from a Control Zone or Residual Zone, some additional level of assurance is mandatory.

Cattle from Control Zones must come from a herd that complies with one of the following classifications before entry will be permitted into a Protected Zone.

This Primefact covers the following topics:

  • Cattle Market Assurance Program (CattleMAP)
  • Beef Only
  • Check Tested
  • Tested to MAP Standard (TMS) and Tested Four Year Old
  • Dairy BJD Assurance Score
  • 3-Step Plan
  • Johne’s Disease Calf Accreditation Program - JDCAP
