Examining cattle for ticks

Moving livestock infested with cattle ticks may result in prosecution so it is a good practice to examine your cattle whenever they are yarded. However, you are more likely to find cattle ticks between February and June when tick numbers are highest. It is a requirement of the Stock Diseases Act 1923 that owners report cattle ticks. It is also an offence to move infested stock off your property.
