Travelling Horse Statement

When is this Travelling Horse Statement required?

A Travelling Horse Statement (THS) is required:

  • when transporting any horse by vehicle in NSW
  • when transporting any horse to any event* in NSW (by walking, riding or by vehicle).

A THS is not generally required when riding or walking horses (unless walking or riding to an event).

Important points when using this THS

  • The THS must be completed before the journey starts.
  • A copy of the THS must be carried with the horse during the journey.
  • You may use a THS to go between the White and Green zones in NSW.
  • The THS only authorises your movement to the state border. To move a horse into another State or Territory you will also need the documentation required by the other  state for that part of the journey.

There are several other conditions for using a THS which have been outlined in the form.  Please ensure you can meet all the conditions before submitting the form, and that you hit 'SUBMIT' to complete your THS and obtain your THS number.

* An event is any market, show, sale, fair, parade, clinic, race meeting, recreational activity, competition or other gathering of 10 or more horses or any number of horses from 3 or more properties.

Note: If you have any questions or concerns about the Travelling Horse Statement, including the Declarations and Conditions, then you should seek independent advice based on your individual circumstances before submitting or signing the THS or moving your horse.  Alternatively, you may request a movement authorisation which will be individually assessed by an inspector.
