National equine influenza summit

Horses in a paddock

A national summit was conducted in Sydney on 25 September 2008 to consider options on the management of a potential future incursion of Equine Influenza (EI).

The summit provided an opportunity for a broad range of industry representatives to put their views and hear all the facts.

The value of vaccination in protecting the horse industry against EI has been particularly hotly debated.

Vaccine may currently only be used in horses being imported and exported.

Delegates attending the summit were drawn form both government and representative sectors of the horse industry.

Presentations at the summit are available from Animal Health Australia (www.animalhealthaustralia.com.au).
