Primefact Number: 836    Edition: First edition    Released/reviewed: 01 Sep 2008

The importance of on-farm biosecurity and personal hygiene in protecting horses from disease has been highlighted by the equine influenza outbreak that was first detected in New South Wales in August 2007.

Some of the topics covered in this Primefact include:

  • Avoid bringing problems home
  • Prevent disease spread
  • Boundary fences
  • Vaccination
  • Prevent disease from other species
  • Investigating and reporting disease
