NLIS sheep and goats: Guidelines for NSW abattoirs

NLIS sheep and goats guidelines

This publication provides guidelines to abattoir operators about complying with the requirements for the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) whenever sheep and goats are slaughtered in NSW. These requirements are prescribed under the Stock Diseases Regulation 2009.

In summary:

  • all sheep and goats must have an NLIS visual tag before they are slaughtered;
  • all sheep and goats must be accompanied by a completed NVD or TSS, which lists all of the tag PICs in the consignment, before they are slaughtered;
  • kill data must be uploaded to the NLIS database by the next working day.
