Camphor laurel

Cinnamomum camphora

Camphor laurel is an evergreen tree that belongs to the lauraceae family.

It is native to China and Japan and in Australia there are related species such as Olivers sassafras (Cinnamomum oliveri) which inhabit rainforest remnants on the east coast.

Since the seventeenth century, camphor laurel has been used commercially for its timber and essential oils in China and Japan.

  • Declared in NSW under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 (view details)
