Pueraria lobata

Kudzu is a trailing or twining plant with stems up to three metres long and large edible underground tubers. The leaves have three leaflets and the flowers are purple, blue or pink with a basal yellow spot. It is able to rapidly smother supporting vegetation.

Kudzu is native from China and Japan to south eastern Asia and New Guinea.
