Salvinia molesta
Salvinia (Salvinia molesta) is a serious aquatic weed that can choke waterways. It floats on still or slow-moving water and can grow rapidly to cover the entire water surface with a thick mat of vegetation.
Salvinia is native to Brazil and has now spread worldwide. It was first recorded at Luddenham near Sydney in 1952 and near Brisbane in 1953 and was thought to have been introduced originally as an aquarium Salvinia plant.
