Serrated tussock - identification and control

primefact cover
Primefact Number: 44    Edition: First edition    Released/reviewed: 01 May 2006

Serrated tussock (Nassella trichotoma) is a serious weed in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In Australia, its main infestations are in the Central and Southern Tablelands of NSW where it is a declared noxious weed. Heavy infestations can reduce stock carrying capacity to as little as 0.5 dse/ha. However, landholders who employ good pasture management and weed control are able to exclude serrated tussock and maintain pasture productivity. This Primefact outlines ways to achieve this. It also tells you how to identify serrated tussock and provides other helpful background information about this serious threat to tableland pastures.
