Name: Conservation farming
Description: A course designed for farmers who have an interest in conservation farming.
Cost:

$460 GST free

This course is registered under the Commonwealth Government's FarmReady program. Eligible primary producers can be reimbursed for the cost of this course. See the FarmReady website for more details.

Course aims:

A course to provide growers and extension practitioners with the necessary skills, knowledge and resources to effectively get conservation farming practices right, across NSW.

Learning outcomes:
  • To help make informed decisions about machinery required for conservation farming.
  • To help improve conservation farming practices.
  • To help understand the physical, chemical and biological aspect associated with soil, as the natural resource base.
  • To help understand the management aspects required with alternative crops like pulses, canola etc.
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure:
  • Soils - influence of landscapes on soils, soil limitations, physical properties of soil, importance of soil and soil testing
  • Engineering - machinery selection and operation, planter, harvest and stubble management machinery, fertiliser and herbicide application, Controlled traffic systems.
  • Agronomy - Crop nutrition in the long and short term, crop rotations, herbicide and fertiliser management, weed control, crop pests, IPM, crop diseases
  • Economics of reduced tillage farming practices
Resources and method of delivery:

Participants receive course notes and manual.

This course is delivered using indoor and out door instruction.
